Veteran actress Asha Parekh, known for her fearless statements, in a recent interview went on to question the producers of popular films in recent time, The Kashmir files (2022) and The Kerala Story (2023).
Asha Ji commented that although she didn’t see either of the films yet, she has heard a lot about them and wondered if the producers have actually contributed to the people about whom they made the films. “Yes, people watched The Kashmir Files. I will say something controversial here…the producer of the film made Rs 400 crore. From that how much money did they give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu and Kashmir? Those who don’t have water, or electricity. How much money did the producer give to them? After paying everybody else’s share, the producers will have their share of profit. Suppose they earned Rs 200 crore out of the film’s Rs 400 crore earnings, they could have donated Rs 50 crore to help the people," Asha Ji stated in a scathing attack.
On being asked if such films should be made, she replied, “If people are watching them, then they should watch them.”
