Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital extension of Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, is gearing up for the release of its first project in 2024. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that the content studio is kicking off the year with Sara Ali Khan’s Ae Watan Mere Watan, set to premiere on March 22nd on Amazon Prime Video. The makers have finalized the Holi weekend for its premiere and will unveil the trailer on International Women’s Day on March 8.
The period drama is based on a true story and unfolds the tale of a young girl who became uniquely instrumental in the freedom fight for Indian independence. Sara Ali Khan plays the role of freedom fighter Usha Mehta, best remembered for her crucial role in establishing Congress Radio, an underground radio station that served as a vital communication tool during the Quit India movement of 1942. Sparsh Srivastava, Anand Tiwari, Benedict Garrett, Alexx O’Nell, and Abhay Verma also feature in pivotal roles in this film, directed by Kannan Iyer from the script by Darab Farooqui.
Ae Watan Mere Watan is the first of the five projects Dharmatic Entertainment has lined up for 2024. Apart from the Sara Ali Khan-led biographical drama, the banner also has three new web series, in addition to the third season of the popular Netflix show, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. The slate includes: Disney+Hotstar’s showbiz drama Showtime, starring Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Shriya Saran, and Rajeev Khandelwal; the investigative drama series Gyaarah Gyaarah, starring Kritika Kamra, Dhairya Karwa, and Raghav Juyal; and Ananya Pandey starrer Amazon Prime series, Call Me Bae.
Meanwhile, Sara Ali Khan has four films lined up this year. Besides Ae Watan Mere Watan, which marks her first biopic venture, she will also be seen in Anurag Basu’s Metro... In Dino, Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, and Homi Adjania’s Murder Mubarak. The latter is based on Anuja Chauhan’s best-selling novel, Club You to Death, and will release directly on Netflix in mid-2024.
