Fatima Sana Shaikh portrayed the role of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her latest film Sam Bahadur. The film released last year and also featured Vicky Kaushal and Sanya Malhotra in the lead alongside the actress. Although Fatima's performance was highly appreciated by the audience. However, in one of the recent interviews, the actress went on to reveal that she didn't accept the role in the beginning. The actress felt that she wasn't the right fit for the role and insisted that she wouldn't be able to portray it rightly.
But the director of the film Meghna convinced her for the role. Following which, Fatima went on to carefully study her character. She would refer to the old videos of Indira Gandhi and heavily relied on the guidance by the filmmaker.
She said, “Meghna was very clear what she wanted from me for India ji. She had curated everything for me. I have read about her life, childhood and everything she has done and contributed. I have seen her old videos, which Films Division also had. But Meghna decided what are the things she wanted to pick from the character and how much. ”
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film released on December 1 clashing with Sandeep Reddy Vanga's directorial Animal at the box office.
