Grammy Awards 2024: Shankar Mahadevan's Shakti wins Best Global Music Album; Zakir Hussain beats PM Modi's Abundance In Millets in Best Global Music Performance category

Grammy Awards 2024 were held on Sunday in Los Angeles. It was a proud day for Indians as artists like Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain won big at the prestigious ceremony. The veteran music personalities represented the country and brought home major honours.

Ustaad Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan's fusion band Shakti bagged the Grammy's Best Global Music Album award. It was for their latest album, titled This Moment. The other members of the band are John McLaughlin (guitar synth), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

 

On the other hand, Ustaad Zakir Hussain won an award in the Best Global Music Performance category for Pashto alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer. It featured virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. His song defeated Prime Minister Narendra Modi-featured project Abundance In Millets by Falu and Gaurav Shah.

Not just this, the tabla maestro also bagged a trophy in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category for As We Speak alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer. Rakesh Chaurasia featured in it.
