Iconic radio presenter, Ameen Sayani, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 91 after suffering a heart attack. Popularly known for his show, Binaca Geet Mala, the veteran left a void in the radio fraternity. The news of his demise was confirmed by his son, Rajil Sayani.
Rajil told Indian Express that Ameen Sayani suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night. He said, "The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him and he was declared dead."
Ameen Sayani's funeral will be held on Thursday as the family is expecting some relatives to arrive in Mumbai for the last rites. Further details on the funeral are awaited.
For the unversed, Ameen Sayani's introduction, "Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon," on Radio Ceylon holds nostalgic value. His iconic show, Binaca Geet Mala, entertained listeners for almost 42 years. He was associated with over 54,000 radio programmes and made special appearances in yesteryear Hindi films.
