While the runway is resplendent there is a certain attractiveness in an atelier show. Such was the case as Archana Rao and SWGT showcased their creations in a down-to-earth manner at
Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI at Jio World Convention Centre.
Sun and Moon – that’s what Archana Rao called her collection with the contrasting celestial bodies reflected in the visuals of the ensembles. It was a heavenly show, indeed with an intense study in stark differences that ended in a fashionable harmony between the two.
The silhouettes were stark, yet strong and obviously enhanced with the sun and moon motifs, along with the brand’s favourite florals and illustrations. Creatively embellished with Swarovski crystals and intense appliqués, the floral embroidery was dappled with delicate pearls that created a timeless appeal.
A Periwinkle Wednesday – that’s what Shweta Gupta of label SWGT called her collection with exaggerated silhouettes intertwined with nature’s poetry. Drawing inspiration from the serene embrace of the Himalayas juxtaposed with the urban hustle, her designs spoke of a longing to reconnect with the very essence of nature.
Unfolding like the pages of a romantic novel, the ensembles were a mélange of witty, poetic, enchanting and frivolous touches with further hints of joy, hope, heartbreak and benevolence skilfully combined.
There was a marked control in structure and style for collars, gathered knots and textured pintucks. The quilting inspired by the periwinkle flower was executed cleverly to bring in a contrasting experience on the garments, while pleating and pin tucks created geometric textures along with hand embroidery.
