Munawar Faruqui landed in legal trouble on Tuesday. The Bigg Boss 17 and Lock Upp winner was reportedly detained after Mumbai Police's Social Service branch conducted a raid at a hookah parlour. According to a PTI report, Munawar and 13 others were caught from Mumbai's Fort area yesterday at 10:30 pm.
The investigation reportedly went on till 5 in the morning today. After which, Munawar and the other detained people were released. A senior police officer said in a statement to PTI, "The police found stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and others smoking hookahs at the joint. We also have a video of their act. We detained them, but they were later allowed to go as the sections slapped against them were bailable."
As per the report, the hookah parlour was raided after the cops received a tip-off that some were smoking tobacco-based hookahs in the guise of smoking herbal hookahs. Reportedly, Munwar and the co-accused were booked under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), along with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).
Munawar and his legal team are yet to issue an official statement.
