After the successful release of the film ‘Shaitaan,’ Ajay Devgn is all set to impress the audience once again with his upcoming film ‘Maidaan’ which is a biopic sports drama on Syed Abdul Rahim who gets credit for rising the level of Indian football in the late 1900s. The role of Syed would be portrayed by Ajay in the film and after the makers dropped the trailer of ‘Maidaan,’ the excitement among the audience has on out risen higher. Ahead of the film’s release let’s get to know more about the legend on whom the project has been made.
Syed Abdul Rahim was born on August 17, 1909 in Hyderabad. He began to work as a teacher before he transitioned into the field of football. He worked as a teacher in the following institutions
Kachiguda Middle School, Urdu Sharif School, Darul-ul-Uloom High School and Chaderghat High School.
He was also at the helm of the Hyderabad Football Association from the year 1943 onwards and continued to be a part of until his last days. Syed guided the Indian football team in the year of 1951 which led to a gold medal following the same in the Asian Games of 1962. He served as a coach of the Indian Football Team from 1950-1963.
This period is also regarded as the “Golden Age of Indian Football” due to the achievements of gold medals in the above-mentioned years.
Directed by Amit Sharma, ‘Maidaan’ also stars Priyamani and will release in theatres on April 10.
