Sridevi Kapoor Chowk: BMC honours late actress by naming a junction in Lokhandwala after her

Sridevi's contribution to the Indian cinema has been unmatched. With over 50 years of career and more than 200 films, she created a space for herself in the hearts of millions. Known as the first female superstar of India, Sridevi left a void in the entertainment field due to her untimely demise in 2018. Now, honouring her legacy and contribution to cinema, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has named a junction in the city after her.

According to reports, the BMC has renamed a junction in Andheri West's Lokhandwala Complex as Sridevi Kapoor Chowk, paying tribute to the legendary actress. Sridevi resided in the plush Green Acres tower in Lokhandwala; hence, the junction in that area was rechristened after her. This is said to be a gesture from the residents and the municipality to honour her.

Sridevi breathed her last in 2018 after accidentally drowning in a bathtub. She was in the UAE at the time of her death. The actress' last appearance was at her husband Boney Kapoor's nephew, Mohit Marwah's wedding in Ras Al-Khaimah.

Talking about Sridevi's untimely death, Boney said in an interview with The New Indian, "It was not a natural death, it was an accidental death. I thought I would never speak about it because I spoke about it for almost 24-48 hours together, when I was being investigated, and interrogated and that is how I got a clean chit from the Dubai police. In Fact, the officer said that we had to do this, we had to go through this because there was a lot of pressure from the Indian media. They discovered there was no foul play. I went through all the interrogation, including the lie detector. The report which came clearly stated that it was an accidental death by drowning."
