Janhvi Kapoor reveals on The Great Indian Kapil Show: “Mom Sridevi wanted me to be a doctor, not an actor”

In a heartfelt revelation on the latest episode of Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show, Janhvi Kapoor disclosed that her mother, the late legendary actor Sridevi, didn't want her to pursue a career in acting. Janhvi, alongside her co-star Rajkummar Rao, appeared on the show to promote their new film, Mr and Mrs Mahi.

Speaking with host and comedian Kapil Sharma, Janhvi recounted how Sridevi, who passed away in 2018, had long hoped her daughter would choose a different profession. "For many years, my mom tried to keep me from acting. Whenever I played dress-up in front of the mirror, she would tell me that her dream was to see me as a doctor," Janhvi recalled, adding in Hindi, "Wo bohot saalon se kaushish karti rahi ki mujhe is disha se dur rakhe. Main dress up karti thi, or make-up karti thi, toh wo mujhe bolti thi – ‘pata hain mera sapna kya hain? Ki aap ekdin doctor bano."

Despite Sridevi's wishes, Janhvi was determined to become an actor from a young age. She humorously shared that she would often tell her mother she would fulfil her dream by playing a doctor in at least one of her films.

Kapil Sharma also took the opportunity to tease Janhvi about her rumored boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya. He playfully asked if she preferred a partner from the industry or if she was content with the 'Shikhar' she was currently on in her life. Blushing, Janhvi responded, "Jiss bhi Shikhar par main hoon, wahan bohot khush hoon (I am very happy to be at the Shikhar I am currently on)."

The episode highlighted Janhvi's candidness about her personal life and the deep influence her mother had on her career choices, adding an emotional layer to the promotional tour for her latest film.
