After Stree, Maddock Films' Munjya to give a unique spin to folklore and fables

Indian Folklore, fables and tales are very known to all. Indian cinemas have been continuously evolving especially in the horror drama genre, delivering pieces based on folklore and fables that bring a unique blend of Indian culture and storytelling. Following the success of films like Stree and Kantara, Maddock Films brings another folklore of the Konkan region, Munjya.

Stree which was released in 2018 evolved how horror comedy was seen in India. Directed by Amar Kaushik under the banner of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor the film displayed a tale of a female spirit haunting a small town. The success of Stree highlights the ability to blend horror and humour. 

 

Kantara which was a massive success on big screens was also a folklore inspired movie from the regions of Karnataka. Kantara captured audiences with the untold tale of Panjurli. Directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara which was a big hit combined culture and traditions which highly resonated with the audiences. 

Following films like Stree and Kantara now comes Munjya. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, and featuring Sharvari, Abhay Verma and Mona Singh, it will release on June 7. Munjya is based on the folklore of the Konkan region. The film has a unique narrative filled with horror, humour, and suspense. The recent trailer release of Munjya has taken the internet buzzing for its unique CGI personality and how it is India’s first-ever CGI actor’s debut. 

The success of films like Kantara and Stree has paved the way for more folklore-based movies and showcasing the Indian culture.
