Kalyug actress Ssmilly Suri stayed away from her filmy career for several years. The actor shares a family relationship with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt. Ssmilly who recently featured in the movie House of Lies debuted in the Bollywood movie Kalyug in 2005 and post that she never got any project. The actress blames it on her cousin Pooja Bhatt. Recently she recalled how Mahesh Bhatt’s elder daughter refrained from getting her any projects.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ssmilly Suri broke the silence about being away from the silver screen. She revealed that her uncle Mahesh Bhatt did not cast her in any movies after Kalyug because Pooja pressured him. Not just that Alia Bhatt’s elder sister also dropped her cousin from her first film Holiday. Talking about the incident in detail Ssmilly said, “Pooja dropped me from her first film Holiday. I am happy that I got dropped from the film because I got to do Kalyug, which was a hit.”
Talking about the hard phase she went through after being pulled out from the first film, she said, “I was going through a lot of shame and depression as she used to write a lot about me in Mid-Day. When I came back from the sets of Holiday, I locked myself in a room. At that time, Bhatt sahab (Mahesh Bhatt) told me that I would be doing Kalyug. I feel after Kalyug, Bhatt sahab couldn’t offer me any films because he had to listen to his daughter, and I don’t blame him.”
The actress added, “That was her call. I actually made that project. I worked with choreographer Sandeep Soparkar. We did rehearsals. Dropping me was her decision, but I will say that I learned a lot while working on that film (Holiday) for six months. She knows her reasons. A lot happened, and it was a traumatic time, so I don’t want to talk about it.”
Ssmilly Suri shared the screen with Kunal Khemu in Kulyug directed by her brother Mohit Suri. The movie also featured her cousin brother Emraan Hashmi in a cameo role. She made a comeback with a web movie House of Lies streaming on Zee5 from May 31.
