Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently addressed his long-standing issues with actor Abhay Deol, with whom he collaborated on the 2009 film Dev D. Despite the film's success, the two have not been on speaking terms since its release. In an interview with Janice Sequeira, Kashyap hinted that revealing the full story behind their fallout would leave Deol "without a face to show."
Kashyap mentioned that their relationship soured during the promotion of Dev D, stating, "He hadn’t even come for promotions." He acknowledged Deol’s past comments calling him toxic but chose not to elaborate further. "There is too much truth in there that Abhay will also not have the courage to talk about. And I will not talk about it because it will make him look like s**t," Kashyap remarked.
The filmmaker also touched upon his strained relationship with actor Pankaj Jha, which he attributed to a misunderstanding. Kashyap recalled wanting Jha for a role in Gangs of Wasseypur, but due to Jha’s unavailability and involvement with the Osho Ashram, the part went to Pankaj Tripathi, who later rose to fame. "Why is he upset after 14 years? He should've been upset at that time, no?" questioned Kashyap.
Jha, however, has denied making any negative statements about Kashyap or Tripathi. In a previous interview with the Indian Express, he clarified, "I never mentioned their name and one can listen to all of my interviews. This is a very childish thing to do. Why will I go talk all this to anybody?"
Currently, Anurag Kashyap is promoting his latest OTT project, Bad Cop, which was released on June 20th. He recently appeared in the Tamil film Maharaja alongside Vijay Sethupathi. As a director, Kashyap is working on an upcoming thriller featuring Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Joju George.
