Sonakshi Sinha admits ‘love is universal’ amid criticism for interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal

 

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot after dating for over 7 years in an intimate ceremony on Sunday. The duo have also shared the wedding pictures on their respective social media handles and truly looked adorable as they stepped into the lifetime commitment. Several celebrities including Salman Khan, Rekha, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Kajol to name a few reached the spot to celebrate the beautiful union. However, certain section of people have been calling out the marriage on the basis of it being inter-faith and expressed their disagreement with the union. 

There has been a backlash towards the duo and also the parents of the actress for the same and it went so extreme that even a march was organized in the state of Bihar protesting about the same stating that Sonakshi shouldn’t be even allowed to enter the state. Following, the actress also removed the ‘comment’ section under her wedding posts as there were several trollers online. Recently, one of the artists on social media however expressed his admiration for the couple and shared his artwork of the duo from their reception picture. He captioned it, 'Love Is Universal Religion', tagging the duo. Sonakshi soon responded under the post and also thanked the artists for his creation. The actress wrote, "Truest words!! This is adorable, thank you."

Sonakshi and Zaheer have been together for years however have kept their relationship private. Despite being spotted together numerous times, the duo didn’t comment on the rumours, and even the wedding was a private occasion despite several rumours claiming the union. The actress even addressed the rumours in an interview stating that it’s her choice to get married whenever she wants and she isn’t obliged to be sharing the same with the public.

Sonakshi and Zaheer, who also starred together in the film ‘Double XL’ which released in 2022,  decided to opt for a marriage that didn’t include the rituals of any particular religion and just went on to sign for the same. On the work front, Sonakshi most recently starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ which was released on Netflix last month.
