The Delhi Files: Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri unveils Bengal's untold story in its own words

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri delves into 'The Delhi Files' with a promise to unveil "Bengal ki asli kahani, Bengalis ki jubani.” Poised to create a cinematic phenomenon, Agnihotri undertakes thorough research nationwide and beyond to craft a compelling narrative. His recent pan-India casting call for pivotal roles like Mahatma Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah has sparked considerable interest. Adding to the anticipation, he has shared insights into the film's storyline, particularly uncovering a significant chapter of Bengal’s tumultuous past. Agnihotri's social media updates include encounters with Bengal's history, showcased through a National Museum visit and a gifted painting from a Bengali artist.

He took to Twitter and wrote,  "#TheDelhiFiles Update: , ” He added, “For the last 6 months, I have been on the road visiting different cities and villages, interviewing people, studying local culture, its history, and trying to understand the root cause of Bengal’s violent history for our next very important film. Bengal is the only state that was divided twice.”

He continued, “Bengal is the only state where a series of genocides took place back to back - pre and post-independence. In Independent India, the conflict was between two mainstream national ideologies - Hinduism & Islam. In Bengal, there were four mainstream ideologies - Hinduism, Islam, Communism, and its radical offshoot Naxalism. Also, there was a very strong sense of loss of the great heritage of nationalism, social reform, philosophy, art, literature, and spirituality of renaissance times. All were in conflict with each other.”

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri embarked on an extensive journey from Kerala to Kolkata and Delhi, covering vast distances to gather precise and comprehensive information for his upcoming film. Immersed in a wealth of literature, he delved into over 100 books and more than 200 articles, focusing on historical events pivotal to his film's narrative. Alongside his team, Agnihotri traveled across 20 states, meticulously studying over 7000 research pages and exploring more than 1000 archives.

Following the nationwide acclaim of 'The Kashmir Files', Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is poised to captivate audiences once again with his upcoming project, 'The Delhi Files'. Partnering with prolific producer Abhishek Agarwal under his banner Abhishek Agarwal Arts, Agnihotri aims to deliver another impactful film that delves deep into India's historical fabric.
