Punjabi actor Ammy Virk, known for his role in Ranveer Singh's 83, recently acknowledged Diljit Dosanjh's significant impact on paving the way for Punjabi actors in commercial Hindi cinema. Ammy will soon appear in Karan Johar's comedy-drama Bad Newz, where he stars alongside Triptii Dimri and Vicky Kaushal.
In an interview with IANS, Ammy praised Dosanjh for breaking stereotypes and creating opportunities for Punjabi actors in Bollywood. "Earlier, Diljit (Dosanjh) paaji came and broke the stereotype of Punjabi actors, which allowed us to get good work here," Ammy said. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has received, crediting Dosanjh's influence, and hopes to make Punjab proud with his work.
Ammy Virk's role in Bad Newz marks his first lead in a Bollywood commercial entertainer, produced by Dharma Productions. He described working with the production house as a "dream" and expressed excitement about future projects with them.
Reflecting on his experiences with Bollywood stars like Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Vicky Kaushal, Ammy called them "incredible actors" and shared that it was "great fun" working with them. He also contrasted his experiences on the sets of Bad Newz with those of Punjabi films, noting the more relaxed schedules in Punjab.
Ammy's Bollywood journey includes roles in Bhuj: The Pride of India alongside Ajay Devgn and 83 where he portrayed former cricketer Balwinder Sandhu. He will next be seen in Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein, though details of his role remain undisclosed.
Aside from acting, Ammy Virk is a celebrated singer in Punjab, best known for his hit song "Qismat," which was recreated as "Qismat Badal Di" for Sidharth Malhotra and Raashii Khanna's Yodha.
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh, who made his Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab in 2016, has starred in films like Phillauri, Arjun Patiala, Soorma, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, Jogi, and Crew. He was last seen in Imtiaz Ali's biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila, portraying the late Punjabi folk musician opposite Parineeti Chopra.
