Renowned director S Shankar, known for his iconic films such as Indian, Sivaji, Robot, and Aparichit, is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated sequel, Indian 2 (titled Hindustani 2 in Hindi). The film, produced by Lyca Productions, is set to hit theaters on July 12th.
In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Shankar shared his thoughts on his filmmaking approach and provided updates on potential sequels to his beloved movies. During the Pinkvilla Masterclass, Shankar was asked about the possibility of sequels for Sivaji, Nayak, and Aparichit. He emphasized that his films resonate with the common man and achieve pan-India appeal when they connect deeply with audiences.
"Everything that audiences want me to do, like Aparichit 2, Sivaji 2, and Nayak 2; Sometimes, even I think I should do them. But for the sake of doing a sequel, I don't want to do," Shankar said. He added, "The subject should hit me, fragment slowly, and it should grow. If it happens in my mind, definitely I will do it. But I am not sure right now. Right now, I don't have any idea of any sequel to my film."
Currently, Shankar is focused on promoting Hindustani 2. After its release, he plans to complete the remaining shoots of Hindustani 3 and Game Changer, both of which require about 15 days each. Post-production work will follow, with Hindustani 3 targeting a release within six months of Hindustani 2, and Game Changer potentially slated for a summer 2025 release. This means audiences could see three Shankar films within a year.
In the same interview, Shankar expressed his interest in exploring different genres, mentioning his willingness to make a disaster-genre film like 2012 and a film inspired by James Bond, though not necessarily a Bond film.
Hindustani 2, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian (Hindustani), is eagerly awaited by fans. Prebookings for the movie will open next week.
