Siddharth Malhotra on Maharaj’s stay, “I cried a lot”

 

Director of the latest Netflix release Siddharth Malhotra recently spoke about the release of the film and how the stay on the project affected him mentioning that there was a point when he went too emotional that his parents had to come to support him. He also added that it was the journey of an ‘unsung hero’ that he brought up and he wanted it to reach the wider audience through the screens. 

The film released on Netflix after the stay by Gujarat court following the complaint that the film was set to harm religious beliefs However, the High Court later ordered to release the stay as it didn’t find anything of such nature. Ever since the film was released on the platform, it has been well-received by the audience and the performances of the lead actors have also been appreciated. 

Recalling the same, the filmmaker said, "This is the story of an unsung hero that should
be told. This is the whole journey of a hero. And he is fighting for women's rights, for everything." He added, "I cried a lot. I literally cried. My father, Prem Kishen, my mother, everyone came home and supported me.” 

However, he further admitted that after its release the film has been appreciated by the audience and has been garnering positive reviews. Siddharth said, "Writing is getting lauded, dialogues are being quoted, my work is also being appreciated.”

Earlier the actress of the film Shalini Panday also spoke about the stay and mentioned that there was no intention to harm any community or individual with the film. Released on Netflix, ‘Maharaj’ stars Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead. The film was initially announced last year and marks the collaboration of Netflix and YRF.
