Indra Kumar admits being unsure of Shah Rukh Khan working in action films

The filmmaker Indra Kumar, who has helmed the projects like 'Dhamaal' and 'Ishq' recently spoke about the superstar Shah Rukh Khan and cited that there was a period when she doubted that the actor could do an action film, especially after his string of flop films which subsequently made him stay away from the acting for few year before he returned with three back to back releases last year.

In an interview, he said, "He was the king of romance for so many years...He played a dwarf, for God’s sake! Nobody is as hard-working as he is. People had written him off, he had to reinvent himself in a new action avatar," on recalling how actor's 2018 film 'Zero' massively flopped at the box office despite having a star-studded cast in it and Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead alongside Shah Rukh.

The director further added that he was sceptical about Shah Rukh being a part of the action films however with the recent releases, the actor managed to prove his versatility and the filmmaker has admitted being a wrong with its doubt.

Shah Rukh returned to the big screens last year after his four-year break from acting. The comeback of the actor set the box office on fire and his releases have proved to be among the most successful projects of the year. Beginning with Siddharth Anand's 'Pathaan' in the month of January where he starred alongside Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

The actor then featured in the highest grosser of the Hindi cinema 'Jawan'. The film was directed by Atlee Kumar and featured a star-studded cast comprising of Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Deepika Padukone and Ridhi Dogra. Shah Rukh concluded the year with Rajkumar Hirani's 'Dunki' alongside Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani. The film released in the month of December and also had a successful run at the box office.
