Renowned filmmaker Kabir Khan has teamed up with producer Sajid Nadiadwala for the biographical sports drama film Chandu Champion, starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role. This collaboration comes at a time when Bollywood’s box office dynamics have drastically evolved, with filmmakers now setting their sights on the Rs 500 to Rs 1000 crore mark, a far cry from the days when Rs 100 crore seemed unattainable.

Kabir Khan recently shared his views on Bollywood's growing obsession with box office numbers. Speaking with India Today, Khan remarked on how the industry’s focus on numbers has turned into an unhealthy game. He noted that post-release, weekly box office updates are pushed by prediction houses and filmmakers, aiming to showcase their success. This, he believes, influences a segment of the audience who prefer watching movies that have already proven to be box office hits.

According to Khan, these industry trends are cyclical. He explained, “Producers, studios, or distributors today feel it may help in business. Honestly, I have no ethical position in it as they are not robbing anyone.” However, he expressed concern over the industry's number-oriented approach, which he finds unhealthy.

Reflecting on the past, Khan recalled that during his youth, opening numbers were not publicly known. He mentioned cult classics like Sholay and Deewar, admitting he still doesn’t know their exact earnings. “It’s becoming like a game now, and if it’s a game, people will come to play it,” he commented.

Khan also touched on the inflation of box office figures through corporate and bulk bookings, driven by the fascination with high numbers. While he doesn't take a moral stance against this, as it brings money into the ecosystem, he acknowledged that it’s a concern for those tracking numbers. He believes this trend is a phase and not particularly relevant in the long term.

Kabir Khan, known for directing hits like 83, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Ek Tha Tiger, continues to make significant contributions to Bollywood, now with Chandu Champion poised to be another noteworthy addition to his impressive filmography.
