Siddharth P Malhotra on unpredictable business of films at current scenario: We have to accept it

Director of the film ‘Maharaj’, Siddharth P Malhotra was asked about his thoughts on the unpredictable business of the films that has highly reflected especially in the beginning of this year. Whereas some films did well at the box office, some failed miserable despite having a star-studded cast or the names of the big actors in the lead.

Speaking about it, the filmmaker agreed that the massive change has taken place in the industry especially post the Covid and it has to be accepted. He said, The budgets of films are not working. The budget that goes into bringing big stars on board is so high that your films' commercial return is hardly there. I think post Covid a lot has changed and we have to accept it. So, if I think your budget of a film is correct and you give your stars a percentage of profit instead of signing them on huge amounts, maybe more films will be made. It has to come down to the big stars and to any actor or any technician who is wanting a huge signing fee, that let the money go into the film and take a percentage of the profit."

His latest directorial ‘Maharaj’ has been released after a court stay and is currently streaming on Netflix. It stars Junaid Kha, who is a son of Aamir Khan, Shalini Pandey, Sharvari and Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead roles. The film also marked the debut for Junaid and has been well received by the audience. Although the film became a controversial project after the complaint was filed against it stating that it tries to harm the religious beliefs but nothing of such nature was found later which lifted the ban on the film.
