Karan Johar opens up about son's weight gain: ‘I want him to be happy and joyous’

Renowned Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar recently shared his concerns about his son's weight gain, attributing some of it to genetics and his own childhood experiences. In a candid interview with Faye D’Souza, Johar admitted to feeling paranoid about his son's weight, revealing a moment of regret when he 'accidentally' fat-shamed him during a family holiday.

Karan Johar, known for his openness about personal issues, discussed the emotional impact of watching his son consume sugar and gain weight. He expressed his desire for his son to be happy and joyous, emphasizing the importance of living life fully at a young age. Despite his concerns, Johar acknowledged the role of genetics, noting that his son’s weight gain is a family trait passed down from him and his mother.

The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director highlighted the internal conflict he faces in wanting his son to engage in sports and activities he missed out on, while also struggling to avoid being an overly critical parent. He admitted to finding it challenging not to make insensitive comments to his children, striving to respect their individuality and choices.

Reflecting on a recent incident during a family vacation, Johar recounted how he told his son he had put on weight, only to immediately regret it. He made amends by hugging his son, apologizing, and encouraging him to enjoy his food.

As Karan Johar navigates these personal challenges, he is also preparing for the release of his latest production, Bad Newz. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Amy Virk, is set to hit theaters on July 19th.
