Race 3: Producer Ramesh Taurani reveals why Saif Ali Khan was replaced by Salman Khan

Producer Ramesh Taurani recently revealed the reaction of Saif Ali Khan on the third installment of the ‘Race’ franchise which featured Salman Khan in the lead. The film was released in 2018 but failed to bring significant impact compared to the success of the previous two sequels which had Saif in the lead. Taurani revealed that Saif was upset with being replaced in the third chapter.

The producer said,  "Race 2 is still his biggest hit. But after that, the poor guy had a series of flops and Race is an expensive franchise, it just didn't make sense (to cast him in Race 3). It was a business decision, nothing personal. He's a very good actor".

The first ‘Race’ installment was released in 2008 and starred Saif, Katrina Kaif, and Bipasha Basu in the lead. The film got a massive response from the audience resulting in the making of a second sequel in 2012 which was also led by Saif but featured a new addition of John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Deepika Padukone. The film was also a successful venture at the box office. However, Saif had a string of flop films later which failed to impress the audience despite fine performances delivered by the actor.

Subsequently, the third installment of the much-anticipated franchise was led by the new addition Salman. Despite the catchy songs and commendable cinematography, the film didn’t make any impression and failed at the box office. It also starred Daisy Shah, Bobby Deol, and Jacqueline.

Meanwhile, Saif is shooting for his upcoming film ‘Devara: Part One’, where he will feature alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Jr. NTR. The film is slated to release in the month of September this year. The actor also has another project starring Jaideep Ahlawat.
