Bad Newz actor Vicky Kaushal says dad Sham Kaushal had suicidal thoughts in early struggling days

Vicky Kaushal has carved his niche as one of the most celebrated actors owning a struggling start to his career. Despite being the son of renowned action director Sham Kaushal, it wasn’t a cakewalk for him to get into movies. The actor who is gearing up for Bad Newz and on a promotional spree made a shocking revelation about his father. As an action director Sham Kaushal has contributed to films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat, among others.

In a recent podcast, Vicky revealed his father has suicidal thoughts because of being jobless for a long time and also reflected on challenges in his early days. The actor mentioned that his family was happy learning about his first 9-5 regular job. However, when he expressed his dream of becoming an actor his father said he couldn't help in that matter due to his small connect as a technician.

In a Raj Shamani podcast, Vicky recalled, “My parents were very happy with the idea of me having a regular job. My grandfather had a small kirane ki dukaan in our village in Punjab. That’s where my parents are from. We had no land back there. Dad came to Mumbai in 1978. He had an MA in English literature, but he was still jobless. One day, after drinking with his friends, he declared that he wants to die. My grandfather became very concerned, so he sent him to Mumbai.”

He continued, “In Mumbai, my dad was willing to work as a sweeper even, because he knew that nobody in the village would get to know. My dad’s youth was full of struggles. There’s no job security in this field. While you’re working on one project, you’re wondering if you’ll find something else next. My family was genuinely very happy that finally someone is going to have a stable income, job security, off days… He was so happy. He felt like his struggles had finally paid off. But I just knew that I couldn’t do a conventional job. I had an offer letter, I’d passed out with good marks. But I knew that I’d become depressed if I went ahead with it.”

Vicky Kaushal’s next big screen movie Bad Newz is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2024. Anand Tiwari's directorial is a rare comedy-drama also featuring Triptii Dimri, Ammy Virk, and Neha Dhupia.
