The Sabarmati Report starring Vikrant Massey, Raashi Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra is facing delays in theatrical release. With the initial date being May 3, 2024 thee political thriller was pushed to August 2, however, it will not see the day of light soon. The film contained some scenes that might offend a section of society hence it underwent reshoots. PeepingMoon was the first to report that the originally assigned director Ranjan Chandel will not continue filming and producer Ekta Kapoor has replaced him with Tushar Hiranandani.
A source informed us, “The idea of reshooting and adding new scenes to the movie did not sit well with Chandel, which resulted in creative disagreements with the producers. Due to their radically different sensibilities, Ekta and Chandel were unable to come to an understanding for this movie. Thus, Ekta consulted the actors, received their consent, and brought aboard Tushar Hiranandani to finish the film.”
Director Ranjan Chandel himself confirmed the reports of steeping out the film due to creative differences in an interview with Hindustan Times. He said, "I took this decision on my own to step back from the film.” Emphasizing the reason behind the call that highly affected the movie, he revealed, “I shot the complete film but then there were few ideas by the makers which were not for reshoot but additions in the film. I didn't agree with those changes as the film deals with a sensitive subject. However the makers wanted them, so I decided to step back from it. There were these creative differences between me and the makers which I didn't agree with, and I couldn't make the film with those changes."
The Sabarmati Report puts light on the horrific incident when Sabarmati Express was set on fire near Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002. 59 Hindu pilgrims returning from Ayodhya lost their lives in this tragic event. The story is told through the perspective of two journalists who meticulously investigated the incident which resulted in religious riots.
