In a somber turn of events, Menka Irani, mother of celebrated filmmakers Farah Khan and Sajid Khan, has passed away at the age of 79. She breathed her last on Friday, July 26. As reported by Indian Express, Menka Irani had been battling health issues for some time.
Menka Irani, who was part of the 1963 film Bachpan alongside Salman Khan’s father, Salim Khan, was a notable figure in the film industry. Her passing comes just days after she celebrated her 79th birthday. On July 12, Farah Khan shared a heartfelt post on social media to mark the occasion, expressing her deep affection and admiration for her mother. She wrote, "We all take our mothers for granted...especially me! This last month has been a revelation on how much I love my mom Menka. She’s been the strongest, bravest person I’ve ever seen. Sense of humor intact even after multiple surgeries. Happy birthday mom! Today’s a good day to come back home. Can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again. I love you."
The post garnered warm responses from industry peers, including Anil Kapoor, Zareen Khan, Huma Qureshi, Abhishek Bachchan, and Ananya Panday, who offered their heartfelt wishes.
Menka Irani was the eldest sister of Honey Irani, an actress and writer who was formerly married to veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar. Her other sister, Daisy Irani, also made a significant mark in the film industry, starting as a child artist and later gaining recognition for her roles in films such as Naya Daur, Bandish, Kya Kehna, and Happy New Year.
Menka Irani married filmmaker Kamran Khan, with whom she had two children: Farah Khan, born in 1965, and Sajid Khan, born in 1970. The Irani-Khan family has been deeply intertwined with Bollywood, contributing significantly to the industry over the years.
