Kantara 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Rishab Shetty's 2022 blockbuster Kantara, is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2025. Following the massive success of the first film, which became a runaway hit in Karnataka and saw tremendous demand across India, the sequel promises an even grander spectacle. The original Kantara, produced by Hombale Films, found success in multiple languages, including Hindi, where it grossed Rs 80 crore.
The production of Kantara 2 began in 2023, with extensive shooting at real locations and studio setups over the past year. Sources close to the project reveal that the outdoor portions are now complete, and only 15 to 20 days of indoor shooting remain. Post-production work has already started, with a significant focus on visual effects to enhance the film's mythological and prequel elements.
Hombale Films and Rishab Shetty aim to elevate Kantara 2 to new heights, investing considerable time and resources into ensuring top-notch VFX. “It’s a big-budget visual spectacle and the makers are investing a lot of time to get the VFX right. While most of the shoot has been wrapped up, the team is not compromising at all on the post-production and visual effects. The idea is to deliver a product that’s 10 notches above Kantara 1. The first promo to announce the film was just a glimpse to showcase the magnitude of part 2,” the source ended.
The film is expected to deliver a visual spectacle that surpasses its predecessor, with the first promo offering just a glimpse of the scale of part 2. Fans can look forward to the release of promotional assets starting in October 2024. Directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara 2 is set to be a true big-screen experience.
