Throwback: Salman Khan's remarkable act of kindness as India’s first bone marrow donor

In a heartwarming tale from Indian cinema, Salman Khan, one of the most iconic figures in Bollywood, not only achieved phenomenal box office success but also left an indelible mark through his extraordinary acts of kindness. Known for his generosity, the Tiger 3 actor made headlines when he became India's first bone marrow donor, a milestone that underscores his compassionate nature.

Back in 2010, a young girl named Pooja was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Her story reached Salman Khan, who did not hesitate to step in and help. Demonstrating his commitment to saving lives, Salman fulfilled his earlier pledge to the Marrow Donor Registry, India (MDRI), becoming a pivotal figure in the cause. His brother, Arbaaz Khan, also participated in this noble effort.

Dr. Sunil Parekh, a board member of MDRI, highlighted Salman’s crucial involvement. Initially, Salman had mobilized his football team to donate. However, when the team members withdrew at the last moment, it was only Salman and Arbaaz who went through with the donation, marking a historic moment as India’s first bone marrow donors.

Salman’s altruism was widely recognized and praised. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, actor Suniel Shetty lauded him, saying, “Salman Khan is a good human being and that’s why he talks that way. What did I do for him? I did nothing. Salman Khan donated his bone marrow many years ago to someone. Now that’s a man who wants a change in society and that’s why God is kind to him. God is taking care of him. He’s God’s favorite child!”

On the professional front, Salman Khan continues to captivate audiences. He is set to star in AR Murugadoss' highly anticipated action film Sikandar, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film, featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Prateik Babbar, and Sathyaraj in key roles, is slated for an EID 2025 release, promising another blockbuster performance from the beloved superstar.
