Ranbir Kapoor’s 'Rockstar' triumphs again in Kashmir, praised by Laila Majnu actor Avinash Tiwary

Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, has once again captivated audiences, particularly in Kashmir, where its recent re-release has made it the biggest hit in the region. Celebrated for its transformative impact on music in Indian cinema, Rockstar continues to be a topic of discussion and admiration a decade after its original release.

Laila Majnu actor Avinash Tiwary recently acknowledged the film's remarkable success in Kashmir. In an interview with News 18, Tiwary lauded director Imtiaz Ali for his exceptional portrayal of Kashmir, noting, “Imtiaz sir has been able to show Kashmir the way it wanted to be shown. This is why there’s a lot of fondness for him.” He also highlighted the film's unprecedented popularity, saying, “Rockstar was released in INOX there recently. According to what I know, Rockstar is the biggest hit in Kashmir in the last one year.”

Tiwary also shared his experiences of engaging with fans in Srinagar ahead of the re-release of Laila Majnu. He recounted how he discovered the film's re-release through an Instagram story and was moved by the affection he received from fans, who were more drawn to his character, Qais, than to him personally. A viral social media reel showing a group of girls searching for Qais and finding him at a café in Srinagar played a crucial role in the film's renewed interest. This led to an enthusiastic meet-and-greet event that underscored the film's enduring appeal.

Reflecting on this unique opportunity, Tiwary expressed excitement about the Srinagar audience finally being able to watch Laila Majnu on the big screen. Six years ago, the lack of theaters in Kashmir meant that viewers could only watch the film on laptops via pen drives. The passionate response to the re-release demonstrated the strong desire for the film and its characters.

Rockstar is a poignant musical romantic drama featuring a compelling screenplay, memorable dialogues, and standout songs like Nadaan Parinde and Kun Faya Kun. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Janardan Jhakar, known as Jordan, a college student who evolves into a global rock star following a heart-wrenching breakup. Nargis Fakhri plays Heer Kaul, with Shammi Kapoor as Ustad Jameel Khan. The film achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, earning Ranbir Kapoor the Best Actor Award.

On the professional front, Avinash Tiwary’s acknowledgment of Rockstar's impact and his connection with Kashmiri fans underscores the lasting influence of Imtiaz Ali's storytelling and the power of cinema to resonate across generations.
