Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Grand Ayodhya and Mithila sets under construction in Mumbai; Filming to restart in late August 2024

Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious project, an adaptation of the epic Ramayana, is rapidly coming to life, promising to be a visual spectacle with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. The director is pulling out all the stops to bring the mythological world to the big screen, and recent developments highlight the scale of this undertaking.

At Film City, twelve sprawling sets are under construction, designed to accommodate the film's 3D format and recreate iconic locations such as Ayodhya and Mithila, the legendary cities associated with Ram and Sita. According to a report in Mid-Day, these opulent sets are expected to be completed by mid-August, reflecting the grandeur of the epic.

Ranbir Kapoor will star as Ram, with Sai Pallavi portraying Sita. Veteran actor Arun Govil, known for his iconic role as Ram in the television series Ramayan, will play King Dasharath. Yash has been cast as Ravana, a role anticipated to be career-defining.

The film's initial focus will capture Ram's younger years, with principal shooting set to resume in late August. Interestingly, the project is structured as a two-part epic. Unlike traditional practices where a sequel is greenlit based on the first part's success, Ramayana will see a significant portion of the second part filmed concurrently with the first.

The production schedule is a meticulously planned blueprint spanning 350 days, covering both individual and ensemble sequences. The goal is to complete principal photography for both parts by December 2025, allowing ample time for post-production, which will be handled by renowned visual effects studio DNEG. While the release date remains undisclosed, it is expected to be announced once the first part of filming is complete.

As Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana continues to take shape, fans eagerly anticipate this epic retelling of the beloved mythological tale, which promises to be a cinematic masterpiece.
