Anurag Kashyap Addresses Criticism of 'Maharaja' and Praises Malayalam Cinema for Its Originality

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's 'Maharaja' was released in theaters on June 14. Vijay Sethupathi was seen with her in this picture. Many people liked this movie, while some people also criticized it. He said that some parts of the film 'triggered' people. Now Anurag Kashyap has reacted to these things. Anurag Kashyap, who played a negative role in this, has commented on this film.

‘Maharaja’ received a lot of praise for its screenplay. This picture has done a business of Rs 104.84 crore worldwide. Amazing acting of Anurag Kashyap and Vijay Sethupathi was seen in this. At the same time, the violence shown towards women in the film was also criticized a lot.

Responding to the criticism in an interview with The Hindu, Kashyap compared the film with Karan Johar-Guneet Monga's film Kill. There were a lot of violence scenes in Kill. He said, “Kill has also faced a lot of criticism for its violent scenes, but that is okay because some films can trigger something. “I believe that violence should be real and so extreme that you actually avoid doing it.” After this, Anurag Kashyap praised Malayalam cinema and said that he is interested in telling original stories there. This year alone, hit films like 'Manjummel Boys', 'The Goat Life', 'Aavesham', 'Premalu' and 'Brahmayugam' have been seen in the Malayalam film industry.

He further said, “These days I watch more Malayalam films than Hindi because they excite me more. In the Malayalam film industry, people tell such unique stories which are special for every person. Film makers are trying to improve themselves instead of the market. Apart from this, a film like 'Brahmayugam' is never made in black and white in any other industry. This shows that he is making only the films he really wants to make.

He said, “Even commercial films are really entertaining. In a film like Avesham, he did not hesitate to cast three influential people in the lead roles.” He said, in Bollywood they fill these roles with big stars, so instead of focusing on the real story, they focus on star power.

The filmmaker said that the problem with the Hindi film industry is that it is often based on formula and when an original work comes out, they deviate from this pattern. Giving examples of original work, he mentioned films like 'Missing Ladies', '12th Fail' and 'Kill'.
