Janhvi Kapoor ran 1000 meters barefoot in Bhopal for climax scene of Ulajh

Janhvi Kapoor’s latest film Ulajh, making waves among audiences, has released in theatres. For this highly anticipated espionage thriller, produced by Junglee Pictures, Janhvi left no stone unturned in bringing her character Suhana, an IFS officer, to life. Director Sudhanshu Saria opened up about the challenges Janhvi faced during filming, highlighting a striking demonstration of her dedication when she ran 1000 meters barefoot through the streets of Bhopal to ensure the successful completion of a crucial climax scene.

The climax scene, shot in Bhopal, required Janhvi to run 1000 meters barefoot through crowded and narrow lanes. Even though the actress had to run through live locations, giving multiple takes to perfect the shot, she was so mentally immersed in her character that despite enduring several injuries during the takes, she tuned out everything and captured the honest and raw emotions of Suhana.

Talking about this intense sequence, director Sudhanshu Saria shared, "Our movie was extensively shot in London, but the most crucial climax scene was shot in Bhopal. The night before our shoot, the set that was built got destroyed due to rain. We had to prep the location again and had a very small window to shoot this crucial sequence. Before we began, Janhvi and I discussed Suhana's mindset for the scene. As soon as the camera started rolling, Janhvi became so absorbed in her role that every step she took reflected her character, Suhana. By the end of the shoot, despite visible injuries from running barefoot on the rugged road, she was so immersed in her character that she barely felt the pain. Janhvi seamlessly transitioned from a polished diplomat to a rugged officer defending her country, outdoing herself in every frame."

Also starring Gulshan Devaiah and Roshan Mathew, Ulajh showcases Janhvi Kapoor as Suhana Bhatia, the youngest Deputy High Commissioner, who navigates a difficult mission at the London embassy under close watch. Her performance defies stereotypes, addressing nepotism head-on.

The film also features Adil Hussain, Meiyang Chang, Rajendra Gupta, and Jitendra Joshi. Written by Sudhanshu Saria and Parveez Shaikh, with dialogue by Atika Chauhan, and directed by Sudhanshu Saria, Ulajh is produced by Junglee Pictures and is now playing in cinemas near you.
