Filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan wrote an emotional post for her mother, Menaka Irani, weeks after she passed away in July. On July 26, Menaka Irani, mother to Farah Khan and Sajid Khan breathed her last in Mumbai. On August 5, Farah shared an intimate tribute to her "one of a kind mom" on social media providing fans with rare look at the woman behind-the-scenes.

The queen of comedy and wit Farah said her mother was even funnier than both she, and brother Sajid put together. Farah posted a heartfelt note and also shared some nostalgic images with her mother that included an old birthday picture where Menaka is seen in a saree clicked candidly, another dubbed black-and-white shot from when she did films briefly, as well as two vintage pics of herself featuring mom including one grainy snap at Farah's 2004 wedding to filmmaker Shirish Kunder.

"My mom was a very unique person.. never wanted the limelight or any fuss around her.. Despite the hard knocks she faced in her early life she was a rare one who had no bitterness or envy towards anyone. Everyone who met her loved her and realised where we get our sense of humour from. Well hardly... she was far wittier n funny than both Sajid and I put together," Farah wrote in her caption.

Following Menaka's death, a number of celebrities paid their tributes at Farah's Mumbai residence, including Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Abhishek Bachchan.

Expressing her thankfulness, Farah penned, "I don’t know if she can see the outpouring of genuine love n condolences that have come for her .. not only from our friends n of course family but so many of her colleagues n people who worked in our house came saying how my mom had helped them with loans or sending them money.. never expecting it back. Thank you to all who came home to be with us in our grief.. to all who messaged n are still messaging."

Farah also expressed gratitude to the medical staff and nurses at Nanavati Hospital for tending to her mother during her last days. "To all her doctors n nurses at Nanavati hospital who tried their best every day. We are grateful you gave us some more days with her. It's time to get back to work... that’s what she was always proud of. Our work! I don’t want time to heal this lump that will always stay in my heart.. I don’t want to miss her coz she’s always a part of me... grateful to the universe for letting her be my mother n letting us look after her the way she single handedly looked after us all her life.. no more mourning now.. I want to celebrate her every day.. thank you everyone... PS: the song playing was by her favourite country singer Don Williams. Knowing her she would probably think its too filmy of me to use it here..."

This sad news comes a month after Farah shared on Instagram that her mother had "multiple surgeries" just before Menaka Irani's death. Farah celebrated Menaka's birthday on July 12. She shared photos with her mother, told everyone about her mom who has always been their rock and mentioned how she put up such a strong front for all of them.

Menaka raised Farah and Sajid by herself after their father died. Menaka Irani was the sister of author Honey Irani and actor Daisy Irani. Her nephew and niece are the filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Zoya.
