Border 2: Ayushmann Khurrana steps out of Sunny Deol film, “unsure of his positioning”

Sunny Deol is set for another major sequel after the success of Gadar 2. The actor is returning to the sequel of 1997 Border reprising his role of Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri after 27 years. Border 2 is being promoted as India's biggest war film. PeepingMoon was the first to confirm that Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has joined the Border 2 cast. Reports also speculated that Ayushmann Khurrana will play a parallel lead in the film.

While Border 2 cast is under discussion, reports suggest that Ayushmann Khurrana has let go of Border 2 after month-long talks. Allegedly he was unsure of his positioning in the second installment of the iconic movie. According to Mid-day reports, a source said, "Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, a towering star in his own right.”

Highlighting on the rumors that the war drama will also star Diljit Dosanjh, the source added, “Nothing is confirmed yet. But Diljit has been approached by the makers. It will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, given their strong audience base in north India.”

The second part will reportedly recount the Battle of Longewala from the perspectives of all three wings of the Indian armed forces: the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The film is expected to go on floors by November.

The cult classic film Border directed by JP Dutta completed 27 years in June. Celebrating the milestone, Sunny Deol announced the sequel through his social media. The film was set during the period of the India-Pakistan war of Longewala in 1971. It starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. Border 2 will be set in the same setting as the battle of Longewala.
