Vikrant Massey reflects on breakthrough success of 12th Fail but remains humble about box office stardom

After making his Bollywood debut in 2013 with Lootera, costarring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, Vikrant Massey has gradually become well-known. His 2023 album 12th Fail was a major turning point in his career. Both crowds and critics responded favorably to it. Despite film's success Massey remains modest about his status in the industry

In a recent interview with Mashable India, Massey expressed gratitude for love and respect 12th Fail has received. He acknowledged film as a special milestone. He emphasized that he does not yet consider himself a box office star.

"When I started preparing for the film, there was valid skepticism about bringing it to cinema. There are a lot of actual people, not just actors," Massey said. "I still am not a box office star. I still have a long way to go for that."

The actor, who is well-known for his parts in movies like Blackout, said that being a box office star requires constant success. He claimed that the "bare minimum" for reaching such status is releasing five or seven consecutively successful films.

Comparing his career to cricket, Massey said, "You can't play one innings and act like you have achieved it all. 'Aap ek inning mein khel ke nahin bol sakte ho ki ho gaya.'"

Directed written and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 12th Fail is based on 2019 book by Anurag Pathak. It chronicles the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. He overcame extreme poverty to achieve his goals. The film was released on October 27 last year. It is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar

On the work front Vikrant Massey has featured in films like Dil Dhadakne Do, A Death in Gunj Chhapaak and Haseen Dillruba. He is set to appear in sequel, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba. This project marks his continuing journey in Bollywood.
