Maddock Films' supernatural mastery: A journey through spooky yet comedic cinematic universe

Dinesh Vijan’s banner Maddock Films is known to deliver unique content and a compelling storyline that attracts the audience and is relatable. Maddock Films created an intriguing supernatural horror cinematic universe. The makers efficiently blend horror and comedy with their innovative storytelling attracting the audience. They have successfully managed to create different, distinctly spooky worlds, starting from Stree in 2018 to Munjya in 2024 and now awaiting Stree 2. Over the six years, Dinesh Vijan and the team have surprised everyone with back-to-back horror comedy movies, and ahead of that nobody could have thought that this genre would emerge as a sleeper hit. Ahead of Stree 2 here’s an overview of Maddock Films’ contributions to the supernatural genre.

Stree 
Back in 2018, Maddock Films known for light-hearted movies stepped into the horror genre but they came with a twist adding comics to it. While horror comedy has always worked their first film Stree 2 was positively received by the audience. Directed by Amar Kaushik the film was a blockbuster hit because of its unique storyline, comic timings, right dose of horror, and other elements. The film follows the story of friends on a hunt for a witch who has threatened the Chanderi Village by abducting men in the night. It was a treat to watch stellar performances from Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana.

Roohi
Post the success of Stree 2, Maddock Films came with another interesting storyline with Roohi in 2021. It tells the story of a ghost who abducts brides on their honeymoons. The film starring Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma received mixed reviews. The film produced by Dinesh Vijan was directed by Hardik Mehta.

Bhediya
Bhediya is the third installment of Maddock Films supernatural horror comedy universe. Starring Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Abhishek Banerjee in lead roles the film is inspired by Arunachal Pradesh's legend of a shape-shifting werewolf (Yapum), who wants to protect the jungle, even if he or she has to kill somebody. In the cinematic visuals Varun Dhawan plays the lead who turns into warewolf while Kriti Sanon is the protector of jungle. Audience and critics praised the film for its visual effects and screenplay. 

Munjya
The recent film in the cinematic universe is Munjya which was a delight to watch. The film is based on a Konkan folklore that captivated the audience with its compelling content which enthralled the  audiences and maintained a robust performance at the box office. Munjya features first CGI lead character and solidified its place as one of the biggest non-star cast blockbusters. Directed by Aditya Sarportdar, the film featured Abhay Verma and Sharwari however, CGI character Munjya pulled the audience. 

Stree 2
Extending the universe, and Stree series Maddock Films is set to release Stree 2. The most awaited film of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao has returned with a twist in the story and evolution of the unique character. As anticipation builds, audiences can look forward to a unique cinematic experience with Stree 2,' blending horror, and comedy in an unforgettable way.
