Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao share candid moments with CJI DY Chandrachud at Laapataa Ladies screening; Director expresses heartfelt gratitude

Kiran Rao's directorial debut Laapataa Ladies, co-produced by Aamir Khan was given special screening at the Supreme Court of India on August 9. The event was held in the auditorium of the SC's administrative building. It was part of an ongoing gender sensitization program. Kiran Rao shared her excitement on social media. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor.

Kiran Rao wrote, "We had the unbelievable honor of screening our film Laapataa Ladie at the Supreme Court yesterday. As is visible in these pictures, I am over the moon! Deeply grateful to our absolutely brilliant CJI DY Chandrachud, his wonderful partner Ms. Kalpana Das, and the whole team of the CJI. It is an experience I will personally always hold dear, and on behalf of my entire cast and crew, I am so thankful for this honor."

Following the screening Rao spoke to Law Today within court premises. She shared her excitement about the event. When asked about the possibility of creating courtroom drama inspired by her experience, Rao mentioned her interest in exploring genre. She expressed her fascination with the courtroom setting.

Laapataa Ladies features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam in lead roles. The film premiered at 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 8, 2023. It had a theatrical release on March 1. The film received widespread acclaim. It continued to perform well after its Netflix release.
