Emergency: Kangana Ranaut compares Indira Gandhi’s life to Shakespearean tragedy

Kangana Ranaut is another Bollywood actor to step into politics. After a successful acting career, she became the BJP MP of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Actor turned politician is now gearing up for her upcoming movie Emergency which is based on Indira Gandhi’s initiated Emergency period from 1975-1977. Kangana portraying the former prime minister compared her life to Shakespearean tragedy. 

Apart from headlining the movie Kangana Ranaut has also directed the upcoming political thriller. Speaking about her interest in illustrating the Emergency period and Indira Gandhi’s life, the actress shared a quote from a biography by cultural activist Pupul Jayakar, which read, “Jiddu Krishnamurti, her guru, friend and guide, he asked her to call an end to it. And she said very something: ‘I feel as if I’m riding this ferocious, cruel beast, which I started to love riding initially, but now I don’t think I can get off of it’.”
 
Commenting on Emergency she said the film is not only a chronicle of the crisis period. Speaking about Indira Gandhi she said, “Her life was such a Shakespearean tragedy. It’s not for us to judge or evaluate. It is what it is. When people see the film they will realize that it is such an honest take on the Emergency, what led to it and what eventually came of it.”

Yesterday Kangana Ranaut also gave a major update on the upcoming movie Emergency. After the announcement audience have been waiting for the trailer and now it is set for a release. Sharing the big news on Instagram the actor announced that the much-awaited Emergency trailer will be out on August 14. 

In the caption, she claimed Emergency as the explosive saga of the darkest chapter of Indian Democracy. The movie directed by Kangana Ranaut, who also portrays the lead role, stars Milind Soman, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Vishwak Nair. Co-produced by Kangana and Renu Pitti under the banners - Manikarnika Films and EaseMyTrip Emergency will open in cinemas on September 6.
