Acclaimed actress Huma Qureshi has added another feather to her cap with the selection of her upcoming film, Bayaan, for the prestigious Asian Project Market at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival in Korea. The film, currently in production, is set to captivate audiences worldwide.
At the helm of Bayaan is the talented director Bikas Ranjan Mishra, whose vision is brought to life by producers Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films), Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, and Anshuman Singh. The project has garnered significant support, including backing from the Hubert Bals Fund, and has undergone meticulous development at the LA Residency as part of Film Independent’s Global Media Makers program.
During her time at the LA Residency, director Mishra had the unique opportunity to collaborate with industry luminary Craig Mazin (HBO’s Chernobyl) and receive invaluable insights from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson. This mentorship has undoubtedly enriched the film's narrative and creative direction.
The film's appeal lies in its ability to blend the nuances of a deeply local story with universal themes that resonate across cultures. By capturing the essence of its cultural roots, Bayaan offers a story that speaks to broader human experiences, making it both relatable and compelling for a global audience. The careful balance between the local and the universal ensures that the story honours its origins but also reaches out to a wider, diverse viewership.
The selection of Bayaan for the Busan International Film Festival reflects this potential and highlights the talent involved. The platform will provide a global stage for the project, allowing it to connect with industry leaders, potential partners, and a wider audience.
