After the success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol announced Border 2 a sequel to the 1997 film Border. The highly anticipated sequel is being promoted as India's biggest war film, and the makers are assembling an impressive pan-India cast to back up their claim. Peeping Moon was the first to report that Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh joined Sunny Deol for Border 2. Now reports are that Varun Dhawan is set to join JP Dutta’s film.
According to Bollywood Hungama reports, Varun Dhawan has been roped alongside Sunny Deol for a significant role. This addition to his film credits will mark a landmark in his career. With a powerful casting of Sunny, Varun, and Diljit so far, the film has raised high anticipation. A source close to the development said, “The makers have roped in Varun for a major role in the film. This film could mark a major milestone in his career, as Border 2 holds a special place with the audience. This addition is certainly elevating the film’s appeal.”
Earlier, Ayushmann Khurrana was also supposed to join the star cast however, he refused the offer. He was in talks to play a soldier in the war drama but he turned down the offer as he was unsure of the positioning. Border 2 will reportedly recount the Battle of Longewala from the perspectives of all three wings of the Indian armed forces: the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The film is expected to go on floors by November.
The cult classic film Border directed by JP Dutta completed 27 years in June. Celebrating the milestone, Sunny Deol announced the sequel through his social media. The film was set during the period of the India-Pakistan war of Longewala in 1971. It starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. Border 2 will be set in the same setting as the battle of Longewala.
