"I should've taken up that fffer": Kangana Ranaut reflects on missed 2019 election bid as she balances politics and films

Kangana Ranaut, who has just won the Lok Sabha election from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh constituency, now feels that not contesting in the previous term was a mistake. The actor-turned-MP revealed it while appearing on Raj Shamani's podcast, confessing, "I think that it is a mistake." She did not seize opportunity to run in 2019.

"I had an opportunity to fight the election in 2019 as well," Kangana shared. "Now that I have so much to learn and so much information to acquire, sometimes I feel, ‘Why didn’t I do it!' It wouldn't have disrupted my career. I could've gotten more accustomed to the political world. At least I would've been more informed, followed the news, or read more about it. Sometimes, I feel that I should've taken up that offer.”

Since winning Lok Sabha seat under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket Kangana has been managing her dual roles in politics and cinema. Just a few months after being sworn in as MP, she turned her attention back to her film career. She is currently gearing up for release of Emergency. This is her maiden solo directorial project. The period political drama is set against backdrop of 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It features Kangana in role of politician herself.

During the trailer launch of Emergency in Mumbai last week Kangana addressed rumours regarding her future in the film industry. This came amid her political commitments. When asked if she would continue acting, she responded, “I think this is a question where I would like people to decide that. For example, I never said I want to be a leader. People should say you should be a leader. Whether a party does surveys or whatever the criteria were to give me a ticket, it is the people’s choice that I should fight the elections. Now, tomorrow if Emergency works and if they want to see more of me, if I feel I can have success, I will continue.”

Emergency is set to hit cinemas on September 6. This marks significant moment in Kangana's ongoing journey of balancing her passion for both politics and films.
