Ananya Panday reveals Call Me Bae is a blend of Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha and all chick flicks she grew up watching

Ananya Panday has also joined the tribe of actors exploring long-format content on OTT platforms. The young actress is set for her web series debut with Amazon Prime Originals Call Me Bae. The eight-episodic series is a light-hearted, visually captivating comedy-drama that revolves around the life of Bella Chowdhary, aka Bae played by Ananya, and chronicles her journey as she goes from being an heiress to a hustler. She claims the show is an amalgamation of all the chick flicks she grew up watching.

During the trailer launch of Call Me Bae, Ananya Panday said her maiden OTT series was inspired by many women-led comedy films, including Alicia Silverstone's Clueless and Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha. At the event even Karan Johar who has backed the project compared her character to Kareena Kapoor Khan as Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

In a media interaction, Ananya Panday said, "It's an amalgamation of all these chick-flick kind of movies that I loved growing up. And then there was obviously Poo, who was iconic. I literally dressed up as Poo two years ago... I have all her quotes on my mirror and everything, so she's really left an imprint on me.”

She continued, "It's like a mix of 'Schitt's Creek', 'Clueless', 'Aisha', 'Nancy Drew'... I don't think we're really getting to watch right now. It's the kind of show that I love to watch. It's very light, young adult, happy and fun. Even though Bae has a bit of all these characters, she is fully her own person."

Call Me Bae is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment production with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra as executive producers, the series has been directed by Collin D'Cunha and created by Ishita Moitra, who has also written the series along with Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair. Call Me Bae will premiere in Hindi, with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, exclusively on Prime Video on September 6.
