Yuvraj Singh biopic: Two big Bollywood stars vying for the role of the legendary cricketer

The announcement of a biopic on Indian cricketer all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has sparked a wave of excitement among the fans. The cricketer played a vital role in the national cricket team he even helped the country win the One-Day World Cup title despite battling cancer in 2011. Bhushan Kumar has now taken the rights to create a movie on the champion. Ever since the makers announced the project people are curious to know who would portray the reel life of Yuvraj Singh. Along with the news of the biopic two big Bollywood stars’ names are surfing in the media to play the cricketer on a silver screen.

Indian audience is a big goer for cricket and movies it is a treat when both are blended well and as a result some of the previous cricket biopics have been well received. After the positive response of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (Mahendra Singh Dhoni), Sachin: A Billion Dreams (Sachin Tendulkar), Shabaash Mithu (Mithali Raj), 83 (India’s first world cup win under the captaincy of Kapil Dev) and more here comes another cricket biopic on legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh. The film has been kept untitled and the makers have retained details about about the director and cast under wraps.

Two Bollywood actors that are likely to play the titular role according to reports are Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal. Ranveer Singh has previously played a cricketer in movies essaying the cricket legend Kapil Dev in 83. His portrayal, of the man who helped India win the first World Cup under his captaincy, was massively hailed by the audience. Vicky Kaushal who is likely another ideal name for the role has also played biopic roles but not as a cricketer. His biographical on-screen characters of Sam Manekshaw in Sam Bahadur and Sardar Uddham won hearts. 

Until the makers make an official announcement is awaited to see who plays the iconic role. Yuvraj Singh’s biopic will be produced by Bhushan Kumar and Ravi Bhagchandka under the banners of T20 Series and 200 Not Out Cinema.
