The recent Kolkata rape-murder case of a trainee doctor shocked the nation and many people stood in support demanding justice. Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri joined the clan of Bollywood celebs protesting against the brutal incident. On August 21, Vivek Agnihotri participated in a rally protest in Kolkata. Speaking to ETimes Agnihotri revealed why he went to Kolkata to actively be a part of the rally. He stated that people complained that everyone writes on Twitter but no one comes in person to support.
The Kashmir Files director said, "Since I have been working in Bengal for my film, doing research for about four five years, I am connected with more young students. My parents used to live in Bengal so I have a lot of history here. When everybody started calling and said that everybody writes on Twitter and Instagram to clear their guilt, but nobody comes, I decided to go for the protest and made a video. When it happened in Delhi, everybody came from all over India for the Nirbhaya case. I even appealed to the young people and have realised that it has become a very emotional issue."
Expressing his thoughts on the recent rape-murder case, Vivek said, “Rape is not only Bengal's problem, it happens everywhere, no woman in India feels safe when she goes out of the house, whether she is old, middle-aged, young or a little girl. This issue has transcended all politics, caste and religion and has become a 100 percent emotional issue.”
On being asked how he would help Bengal, Agnihotri said, "Bengal is ready for another renaissance kind of cultural revolution. It was one of the most culturally enlightened and empowered states. It used to be fertile land which is now completely barren, we need to sow some thousands of seeds and wait for them to bloom and flower. Eventually, I think all the young people should now initiate a cultural, spiritual and social renaissance."
