Jio Studios and Baweja Studios’ powerful drama Mrs, starring Sanya Malhotra got a standing ovation from a packed audience at its screening at the prestigious Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM), continuing a lasting mark on the global stage. Mrs narrates an inspiring story of resilience, which captivated audiences at the festival.
Lead actor Sanya Malhotra graced the occasion and engaged in an emotional and thought-provoking conversation with the audience. She delved into the film's powerful theme and shared insights into the creative process behind its making. Mrs received an overwhelming response from the audiences and Sanya Malhotra shared her process of prepping for the film and was high on praise for the director, Arati Kadav.
Addressing a moved audience post the screening, an emotional Sanya said, “She (Arati) has done such an amazing job. She is such a soft, kind human being and I loved working with her. Every second with her on set was brilliant!! I met a lot of women while I was prepping for the film. A very close friend of mine has been through something very similar. She graciously shared her therapy notes which I used to read almost every day and I used to feel angry and sad because I'm so close to her and I feel really bad that some women are going through this. Some women have accepted this and some people have given up on their dreams and what they want.”
Sanya further added, “I am a very lucky actor. I started off with Dangal and when you get an opportunity like Dangal it gives you a platform and when you have that platform you should make the most out of it! I can sit back, enjoy, and do the film that I want to do!! I want to tell stories that inspire women and bring about a change.”
Mrs is a tale of Richa enacted by Sanya, which depicts the life of a married girl who finds her identity amidst navigating her life in the kitchen. Alongside Sanya Malhotra, the film also stars Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh in pivotal roles.
Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Pammi Baweja, and Harman Baweja.
