Nani expressed hope for improvement in the industry in future.
The details of the 'HEMA Committee Report' were recently made public and since then film stars, including Nani and Tovino Thomas, have expressed their opinions on the findings related to the Malayalam film industry. In a recent interview with a channel, Nani described the reports as "alarming", but he has not seen any such incidents on the sets of his films.
Nani said in a statement, "When I read this, my heart breaks. But I don't see this happening on my sets or anywhere near me. I'm sure this happens with many mainstream films too. That's what happens because everyone is working toward something very serious."
The actor also said, "Maybe something might have happened, but it never came to my attention on location or everyone around us is a little cautious. So, when I read something like that, I think. I'm like, 'Where is this happening?”
Apart from this, Nani demanded strict punishment for the accused and expressed hope for positive change in the industry. The actor said, "I see a lot of change in the next generation. When I look at these young women or someone who has just joined cinema, they are not like the people who have been in it for 20 years. There is a lot of professionalism in them and I am hopeful that things are going to get better from here."
Just to let you know, Following the sexual harassment case of a Malayalam actress in 2017, the government constituted a three-member commission. The report highlights several issues within the Malayalam film industry such as sexual harassment, inadequate facilities for women, pay inequality and gender-based discrimination.
