Abhishek Banerjee reacts to Stree 2 and Vedaa box office clash; says, “Nobody imagined Stree to be such a big monster”

Abhishek Banerjee had two big films Stree 2 and Vedaa released together on the same day August 15. While one movie witnessed tremendous success at the box office another underperformed. Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao continues to make impressive business during the ongoing successful theatrical run. Abhishek who played pivotal roles in both movies shared his thoughts about the clash.

In an interview with News 18, the actor popularly known by his Stree character Janaa said, “As an actor, it’s a bittersweet experience. Nikkhil Advani has directed a beautiful film. I saw 60 per cent occupancy for Vedaa in metro cities. I don’t know about the rest. I saw people clapping during the climax. The problem is that Stree is a juggernaut. Since it is also a sequel, the audience is already in sync with the characters. Nobody imagined Stree to be such a big monster. I knew it would be a monster but not that it would become Godzilla.”

In the same interview, Banerjee revealed that he is now flooded with movie offers for lead roles. He mentioned that after the success of Stree 2, he received three offers. "Now, immediately, I have started getting offers for leads. I wasn’t getting these offers earlier. The ones I was being offered were tight and low-budget. I got three offers last week. I will start reading and choosing what to do next. It makes a big difference.”

Stree 2 is enjoying a phenomenal run at the box office earning Rs 456 crore at the global box office and Rs 327 crore net collection in India. The sequel is the fifth installment of Maddock Films supernatural horror universe. Directed by Amar Kaushik the film continues the story of the first chapter with a new twist of Sarkata.

On the other hand, Vedaa is an action thriller highlighting the social subject of casteism and discrimination. The film starring John Abraham, Sharvari, and Abhishek Banerjee is directed by Nikkhil Advani.
