Kriti Sanon has created a name for herself in a career spanning 10 years being an outsider in the industry. She has had her share of flops and hits and even experienced Bollywood’s rough phase when films didn’t perform well at the box office. Recently, during a conversation with Nikhil Kamath, the actress defended Bollywood when the host said the Hindi film industry is not thriving.
The actress who won the National Award for her 2021 release Mimi discussed Hindi films cinematic run and how it has overcome the dry spell. Nikhil Kamath asserted that Bollywood is not flourishing but Kriti Sanon disagreed with his statement. She stated that over time audience expectations have changed. She backed her statement with an example reflecting back in time when making Rs 100 crore business was a big deal however it is not now.
The actress has herself experienced a good theatrical run this year for her latest released movies Teri Baato Mine Aisa Uljah Jiya and Crew. Kriti Sanon said, "I think it is doing great. Who said it? My last two films did pretty well." Explaining his point, Nikkhil added, "It is harder for talent in Bollywood to make as much money as they did a couple of years ago. It is harder for Bollywood to employ the same number of people it once employed. The odds of a movie succeeding have gone down".
To this Kriti replied, “Earlier, if a film earned 100 crore, it would be a big deal. Now, 100 crore is nothing. So, the expectation has gone somewhere else only. There was a phase when it (Bollywood) was not (thriving), but now theatres are back and how.”
Indian rapper Badshah who was also present agreed with Kriti’s statement. Speaking to the podcast host Nikhil Kamath, he addressed how the industry has overcome the challenging time of taking lessons and is now succeeding.
Meanwhile, Kriti Sanon is now gearing up for her first production venture Do Patti. She will not only produce the crime thriller but also play the lead actress alongside Kajol, Shaheer Sheikh, and Tanvi Azmi. The movie will be directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi. Do Patti is the first production of Kriti and Kanika's newly launched banners, Blue Butterfly Films and Kathha Pictures, respectively.
