Aamir Khan has expressed his concerns about his son Junaid Khan joining the Bollywood industry even though Junaid made a debut in Netflixs Maharaj. During an interview with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast Aamir openly shared his reservations about Junaids skills especially because of the unavoidable comparisons that come with being a father and son duo.
Aamir revealed his concerns about the burden of the “Aamir Khan’s son” tag. “Being an actor myself, I knew that when Junaid's first film came out, he would be compared to me. This label will always be with him, and I feared it might burden him unnecessarily,” Aamir explained.
Aamir was concerned not just about being compared to others but also because Junaid was naturally reserved. Recalling his battles with shyness when he started Aamir admitted he had doubts about Junaids ability to thrive in a challenging field. “He was very shy, and I wasn't sure if he had the qualities it takes to be a good actor,” Aamir shared.
To get Junaid ready for the hurdles in the field Aamir communicated his expectations. He conveyed to Junaid, “If you're not a good actor, I won’t produce a film for you.”
However, Aamir’s fears were put to rest after watching Maharaj, where Junaid’s performance impressed him. “Junaid has shown a lot of promise,” Aamir said, expressing pride in his son’s growth as an actor.
The movie Maharaj, helmed by Siddharth P. Malhotra made its debut on Netflix and stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari.
