Prasoon Joshi returns to bollywood after CBFC tenure, Explores new horizons with musical show 'Rajadhiraj: Love, Life, Leela'

Famous lyricist and writer of Hindi films, Prasoon Joshi was away from Bollywood for a long time. He last wrote songs for the 2019 film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Recently he was asked why he stayed away from Bollywood for so long, to which he answered openly. The lyricist said, “I was on the post of Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), I took up the responsibility of this post and there were many challenges before me at that time. My integrity and honesty demanded that I maintain a certain distance from the work I was certifying so that I could remain impartial."

The famous lyricist said that due to the honesty of his post, he had to put a pause on his work for some time. Referring to writing, the actor further said that now he is slowly moving back towards the thing he loves. Joshi, who has written songs and screenplays for many films, has recently stepped into a new dimension of writing. He has written the musical show 'Rajadhiraj: Love, Life, Leela'. He described it as quite challenging. He said, "I had written many plays in college life, but this experience enriched the soul." He further said that he always believes in working hard on complex, less explored topics. He is attracted to sports biopics, poetry, advertisements, songs, film scripts, music and theatre.

The Padma Shri awardee said that it is not easy to strike a balance between being the Censor Board chief and being a writer. He said, “CBFC came with its own responsibilities and challenges. I said yes to this role at a time when the certification body was being criticised all around. I tried to bring as much positive change as I could, whether it was digitalization or streamlining processes, to strike a balance between artistic freedom and social sensibilities." However, he is now exploring new genres as a lyricist and has released some Working on new music, web series and book.

He also discussed serving the old songs again with a new flavour. He said that old songs always have a place in the heart, but we also need new work. The audience also needs to demand better quality writing. Regarding 'Rajadhiraj: Love, Life, Leela', he said that as a script, dialogue and song writer, it was a challenge and a unique opportunity to connect with the hearts of the audience. He said that there are about 20 original songs in it.
